The US city of Bogata is in Red River County in the state of Texas. This city, named after Columbia's capital, Bogota, translates to lavish in the Polish Language. This city started as Maple Springs after Mary McGill and William settled in this place in 1836. In 1844, this area's population was legible to start school. In 1880, growth caused the division of the settlement. Old Maple springs adopted the name, Rosalie. As another post office opened in 1881, the Government restricted the use of the name Maple springs calling for an alternative. Eventually, Bogata became the last name after misspelling Bogota.
