The US city of Brazoria is found in Brazoria County in the state of Texas. According to the 2010 census, Brazoria’s population was 3,019. Brazoria was established in 1828. The land on which the city stands was granted to John Austin by Stephen Austin. John Austin on to lay out the town and selected a name for it. It is believed that Texas’ first Masonic lodge was founded in 1835 when six men met in Brazoria under the Masonic Oak. The town would be nearly deserted the following year during the Runaway Scrape. In 1838, the first school in the area was opened by H. M. Shaw. A post office would follow later in 1846.
