Located in western Guadalupe County, Cibolo forms the boundary between Guadalupe and Bexar counties. According to legends, Indians stampeded buffaloes over the steep banks of the creek, giving the area the name Cibolo, which means buffalo in Spanish. Cibolo is recognized as one of the safest and most livable cities in the state. When the railway was built through the area I 1877, the station was called Cibolo Valley. The major economic influences on Cibolo have been Randolph Air Force Base and the expansion of San Antonio. The town survived the Great Depression and had a population of 250 prior to World War II.
