Dale is an unincorporated community in Caldwell County. It was named after the valley in which the town is located. In 1880, the Missouri, Kansas and Texas railroad was built followed by the opening of the town’s post office. The community shipped cotton and by 1885, the town had three general stores, a steam gristmill, and a cotton gin. The Great Depression had declined the town’s population and businesses, but Dale managed to stay. In 1936, the county highway map showed a large number of the town’s residents, along with two schools, two churches, and several businesses that included a seasonal industry. In the early 1990s, the community reported 14 businesses.
