Kountze is a city located in Hardin County in Texas. The town’s population was 2,123 as of the 2010 census. Kountze is the county seat of Hardin County. Kountze was built as a railroad town in 1881. Kountze possesses an area of 89% of forested green terrain. The town was originally named for the Kounte brothers, Augustus and Herman, who were investors for Sabine and East Texas Railroad. The community describes the town as “The Big Light in The Big Thicket”. The area has a vast area of forests. The town became the first American city with a Muslim mayor, back in 1991.
