Tuleta is a census-designated place in Bee County, Texas. It is located on SH 181, north of the county. It was founded in 1906 when a minister brought a colony of Mennonites from Illinois to the area. The settlement was named after the landowner’s daughter. A mercantile company, gin, grocery, grist mill, lumber yard, coffee shop, and two hotels were among the early businesses in the region until oil and gas were discovered nearby in 1929. To date, the community celebrates Tuleta Day every August. Despite the town’s activities, the number of residents did not grow considerably. As of 2010, it has a population of 288.
