Weatherford is a city in and the county seat of Parker County, in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located at the junction of US 180 and US 80, in the central part of the county. The city was named after Jefferson Weatherford, a state senator who was also the co-author of the county’s establishment bill. The town was incorporated in 1858 and its post office was inaugurated a year later. For two and a half decades, the city stood as a safe haven for the county’s people, who moved to the area during multiple Indian raids. Once the attacks subsided, the city started to develop. A railway was built in the area and Weatherford became a prominent retail and shipping center for area ranchers and farmers. Oilfield equipment, furniture, rubber, and plastic products were then added to their existing agribusiness industry. As of 2010, it has a population of 25,250.
