Farmshare Austin

Saying "we grow farm produce" makes sense. But what does "we grow farmers" mean? Farmshare Austin believes that one of the ways to improve and sustain the local food system is to "grow farmers." By which they mean to look for individuals who have a genuine interest in farming, teach them, mentor them, and make sure to encourage them to pursue this calling and be a farmer for life. It makes sense. Without a new generation of farmers, there is no one to carry on the farming practices. Farming locations and facilities will fall to disuse and knowledge about farming, most of which gleaned from experience, will be lost because old farmers have no one to share this wisdom with. Farmshare Austin wants to be the one to bridge the gap and make sure there is always someone in the community who will continue farming the lands.
