Bankhead Brewing Company is the brainchild of chef Kevin Lefere and brewmaster Ryan Pyle. They were both eager to open their own brewpubs, but didn't feel equipped to operate and manage a successful brewpub on their own. A chance introduction by mutual friends in 2014 eventually blossomed into a partnership. By Spring 2016, they opened Bankhead Brewing Company.
The brewery’s namesake is the old Bankhead highway. Built in 1916, the highway ran from Washington, D.C. to San Diego and spanned downtown Rowlett. The pioneering spirit that built the highway reflects the same spirit that inspired its founders to build their own brewery and restaurant. One hundred years later, the pair are serving their award-winning craft beers and delicious, fresh-from-the-wood-burning-oven food in downtown Rowlett.
