Raquel SantosSocial Media & Online Community Manager
I manage the social media platforms and online community of Texas Real Food. So when you’re checking out our Instagram, Facebook or Twitter – I’m likely the one behind it!
I’m originally from the Philippines, and, prior to joining Texas Real Food, I worked as Supervisor and Social Media Manager in my family’s small hotel based in Palawan, Philippines. From there, I’m now helping to develop the online community on our website, and getting the word out there about all the great things happening at Texas Real Food.
I enjoy working with TexasRealFood because of the relaxed working environment and I get to learn more about all the great things Texas has to offer. I believe that the awareness for food literacy must be raised and support for farmers must be of utmost importance. Without this, we won’t be able to make real change in how we interact with our food, and to support those who can make on-the-ground differences. Through our social media channels, we hope to reach more people and spread the message of real food in Texas!
What’s your favorite ‘real’ food or Texas staple?
Philippines is known for its rich foods and one of the popular dishes is Kare-Kare, which is my favorite food. This dish is a type of stew with a rich and thick peanut sauce and served during special occasions. The traditional recipe is composed of ox tail, and is not complete without bagoong (shrimp paste) as seasoning.
