Established in 1837, the Bastrop County is named after Felipe Enrique Neri, or Baron de Bastrop, who helped the Father of Texas, Stephen F. Austin, to have his project of establishing an Anglo-American colony in Texas approved. Bastrop’s economy is supported by agribusiness, bio-technology research, computer-related industries, as well as tourism. One of the main things that brought Bastrop in the news was them being chosen as a location for Hollywood movies and therefore being officially declared as the “Film Hospitality Capital of Texas.” More than 50 film projects have been filmed in different areas of Bastrop and starred big names such as Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Julia Roberts, Ryan Reynolds, Denzel Washington, Meg Ryan, Renee Zellweger, Paul Rudd and many more.
