Blue Donkey Farm is a beautiful farm in the Southern part of Bastrop County! While the farm has the word donkey on its name, the farm does not raise donkey. Instead, the farm produces pork, eggs, and vegetables. Their best product is pork meat. While no cut is disappointing, some of their customers particularly love the shoulder meat and bacon. In Choctaw (American Indian) language, 'chickamaw' means native, or sacred land. The Chickamaw Organic Farm & Ranch is the only certified biodynamic farm in Texas. This certificate means that the farmers focus on healing the farmland by nurturing it properly. This method is done so that in return, the farm can 'heal' us through the food it produces. According to the owner, everything they do to the soil, water, land, and animals matter a lot because it is what we also do to ourselves. Therefore, getting food from properly raised food means we are also correctly taking care of ourselves. The farm offers five different kinds of blueberries and Irish Dexter beef. Located on a 7-acre farm in Cedar Creek, Texas, Countryside Family Farm “raise, process, and sells happy and healthy animals” including duck, chicken, goose, rabbit, guinea fowl, pigeon, heritage pig, as well as capturing wild hog. All of these animals are raised in an “herbicide, pesticide, and chemical fertilizer free environment,” with their natural diets supplemented with a locally milled custom grain mixture that is free of growth hormones. Countryside Family Farm utilize their animals from nose-to-tail, creating an “extensive charcuterie line of sausages, rillettes, pates, terrines, mousses, cured meats, stocks, fats, etc.” They process all of their poultry on-site in a state licensed facility and the large animals at a local custom abattoir.
