Hutchinson County was established in 1876, but it was not organized until 1901. The county was named for Andrew Hutchinson, who was an early Texas Attorney. This county is located in the northern part of the Panhandle and contains the most ghost towns in the Panhandle region. In fact, the county’s former seat, Plemons, is now considered a ghost town. You can also find the Hutchinson County Historical Museum here which showcases the region’s rich history with exhibits spanning all the way to prehistoric times. The county is well-known for its petrochemical industry with agriculture taking a back seat.
