The county of San Augustine, located east of the Texas state, was established and organized in 1837. It was supposedly named after St. Augustine of Hippo, but the residents thought that it was more appropriate if the county was named after its largest town – San Augustine. Moreover, this county has been economically dependent on its timber, farming, ranching, and tourism industries; timber remains to be its most significant product, but poultry, cattle, horses, crops, and fruits were its major agricultural crops. It also features interesting historical and recreational sites from the Mission Dolores Museum to the Fairway Farms Country Club. This county holds an annual spring crafts fair and Tour of Medallion Homes and Historic Places. Moreover, Mexican, Italian, Southwestern, and American cuisines are dominant in this county.
