The county of Yoakum, located west of the Texas state, was established in 1876 and organized in 1907. It was named after Henderson Yoakum, a pioneer historian in Texas. This county has been economically dependent on its farming, ranching, oil, and gas industries; cotton, peanuts, wheat, watermelons, sorghum, and cattle were its primary agricultural products. It also features some interesting historical and recreational sites, from the Yoakum County Courthouse to the Tsa Mo Ga Museum.
