Good Agricultural Practices Certified (GAP)

GAP certification is becoming increasingly popular among Texas producers, as it provides the opportunity to access new markets and become more competitive. With GAP certification, producers can benefit from good reviews of their products’ quality, good food safety records, and higher product prices due to greater consumer confidence. Getting GAP certified is a bit of an involved process. For starters, producers have to demonstrate that their operations and products are managed under good agricultural standards. This includes things like proper pest control, good hygiene practices, harvesting at the right time and temperature, and more. Producers must also prove that they aren’t using any prohibited substances in their production process. From there, producers must submit records of good agricultural production practices, food safety assessment reports, and any other documents that may be required for certification. Once the producer has been approved for GAP certification, they can proudly display the official GAP seal on their products to demonstrate their commitment to good agricultural practices.
