Brenton Johnson started gardening in his backyard in 2004. By 2006, he was able to start Johnson's Backyard Garrden, a small community-supported agriculture (CSA) program with about 30 members. The small backyard operation eventually took over the grounds of the house, and Brenton decided to move to a larger 20-acre lot. He quickly outgrew that lot, too, and in 2010, with the help of his CSA members, purchased a much bigger lot to accommodate the farm’s expanded operations. Today, Johnson’s Backyard Garden sits on 186 acres of farmland where they grow over 200 different crops!
Still family-run and community-supported, the farm provides CSA members with organic produce year-round. It also participates in different farmers’ markets around the area and supplies various restaurants and grocery stores.
Check out their website and social media feed. It’s filled with amazing food photography, recipes, and tips. A key section gives members a glimpse of what to expect in their CSA boxes each week.
