The Alanreed unincorporated community is located in Gray County in Texas state, US. The community was named after the partners of the firm that laid out the townsite in 1900. They were known as Alan and Reed. Earlier, the place was known as Gouge Eye in memory of an infamous saloon brawl. The first post office in the community was established in 1901. Later, in 1902, a post office would be moved was built, having been moved from Eldridge and taken the name Alanreed. The community has made several attempts to be Gray County’s county, but all have been unsuccessful.
