The US city of Anson is located in Jones County in Texas. It also serves as the county’s seat. The city had a population of 2,430 in 2010, according to the 2010 census report. The city was originally known as Jones City. However, in 1882, it was renamed “Anson” to honor the last Texan President, Anson Jones. One of Anson’s ancient traditions is the Texas Cowboys’ Christmas Ball. This event runs three nights long, and is held on the last weekend to Christmas. The maiden event was held at Star Hotel in 1885. Thereafter, the event was held every year until 1890 when Star Hotel mysteriously burned down.
