Aurora is located in Wise County and sits on a 3.7 square miles land. According to the 2010 census, the town had a population of 1,220 with close to 350 households and 245 households. The city became popular and dominated the world’s headlines after the 1897 purported UFO crash in the area. The town by then had 332 housing units with a population density of 102.8 per square mile. According to reports, the UFO pilot was retrieved from the wreckage and buried in the local cemetery. The Northwest Independent School District is the body that serves the education sector in the area.
