The Brewtorium

Craft Brewery in Austin - 4.35 mi

The Brewtorium in Austin opened in March 2018 with the team of Chris, Whitney, Kristie, and Dave on board. With Whitney as CEO and Chris as Head Brewer, they’ve taken in Executive Chef Dave to pair German-inspired food to go with German-style beers, the style preferred by Chris who’s of German ancestry. Restaurant-veteran Kristie, meanwhile, completes the group as General Manager. The Brewtorium has a spacious taproom and outdoor patio in N. Central Austin. Order their Tangerine Milkshake IPA and give support to Mother’s Milk Bank, which provides “life saving breast milk to the most fragile babies in need”. You might want to pair the brew with the Deviled Eggs. We hear it’s simply delicious! The brewery also serves a selection of wine, cider, mead, and sake.

Hi Sign Brewing

Craft Brewery in Austin - 4.68 mi

Hi Sign Brewing takes its name from Hi Sign Road in Lincoln, Montana. The name stuck because Marine Corps veteran Mark Phillippe, the brewery’s founder, spent time with his Dad in a little cabin off Hi Sign Road. It was there that he developed his love for craft beers. After his military stint, Mark found himself searching for his next path. Two mentors, both also in the beverage industry, convinced him to pursue his dream of building his own brewery. The brewery opened in 2017 with Andrew Shelton as head brewer. Andrew brings an extensive brewing background including stints at Texas and Florida breweries. Located in a 6,600 square feet warehouse and situated in a one-acre lot, the airy taproom has ample space for special events. While at the brewery, try the blond ale with “the perfect subtle amount of blueberry” Violet the Blueberry Blonde (5.1% ABV). It’s their bestseller. Thirsty Planet Brewing Co

Craft Brewery in Austin - 6.77 mi

There’s nothing random about Thirsty Planet Brewing Company’s methods when it comes to brewing great craft beers. Everything has a purpose. For example, they started back in 2010 with just ales, which take less time than lagers. They donate tips gathered at their tasting room to charities, and sponsor several local charities whenever possible, including the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund. Local artists get traction and support through their Brite Tank and Event Brite initiatives. They donate spent grains to local farmers, and recycle paper, cardboard, and glass products, too. Business decisions are purposeful, too. They celebrated their seventh year with the launch of Buckethead IPA sold in a special 7-pack beer. Of course, these came in a bucket shaped container. Watch out for the brewery’s taproom reopening. They closed the old one to concentrate on production and distribution, boosting their capacity and making them available on store shelves.

Austin Beerworks' four co-founders believe that “beer brings people together”. To this end, they established Austin Beerworks so “people (will) have a better time”. Austin Beerworks beers are only sold within about 50 miles of Austin, but the brewery is gaining national recognition. They recently made Forbes 11 Best Beers list in 2018. The brand started with their first release in April 2011. Initially raising the eyebrows of craft beer fans by having them distributed in bold, attractive cans, it went from a startup to “growing by over 180% each year”. Today, they have “core four” beers - Peacemaker, Pearl-Snap, Flavor Country, and Fire Eagle. In addition, they have a rotating set of seasonal beers, and the Heavy Machinery seasonal IPA series. They also lay claim to a world's first - the 99-pack - a marketing gimmick to promote their Peacemaker "Anytime Ale". In 2016, Austin Chronicle dubbed them “the new official beer of Austin”. In 2017, they expanded to a 15,000+ square foot warehouse next door to the brewery. Austin Beerworks has been included in our list of 10 Must-Try Craft Breweries in Austin (2020). Celis Brewery

Craft Brewery in Austin - 7.94 mi

The Celis Brewery name is synonymous with witbier or “white beer”. The name Celis had gone through two iterations previously. Pierre Celis, the legendary brewer, built two breweries - one in Belgium and another in Austin - which ended in "Faustian deals” and forced Pierre to give up the breweries he built. The beer world mourned Pierre's passing in 2011. He is credited with reviving witbier, which had all but died in the 1950s. Celis Brewery “2.0”, essentially the third iteration of the brewery, is by Christine Celis, Pierre’s daughter. With help from outside investors, the brewery and taproom opened in 2017. Using her father’s original recipes, Christine recreated the beers that were her father’s legacy. She also introduced new ones that promise to continue the family name’s legendary reputation. Daytona Camps, Christine's daughter, joins her mother at the brewery. Like her mother, she is also a brewer having perfected her brewing skills around the U.S. and in Europe. Celis Brewery has been included in our list of 10 Must-Try Craft Breweries in Austin (2020). Check out the link to read more!

Circle Brewing Company

Craft Brewery in Austin - 8.72 mi

Nashville natives Ben Sabel and Judson Mulherin founded Circle Brewing Company in 2010 making it the oldest microbrewery in North Austin. Adhering to the principles of the German Purity Law, the duo believes in combining the Law "with a little creativity and Texas ingenuity”. This philosophy results in award winning beers including their Alibi Blonde, which won silver at the 2014 World Beer Cup. In 2016, their Archetype Historical IPA won gold at the 2016 edition. Their Doppel Blur Imperial Hefe, meanwhile, took bronze at the 2018 Great American Beer Festival. Circle Brewing is popular with the Austin community because they host several unique events each year. For example, in 2019, the 0.5K Marathon at the brewery's parking lot is on its 6th year. With beer in hand, donors participate in a race and proceeds go to a different charity each year. Another unique event had them team up with Equality Texas during Pride Month. Frontyard Brewing

Craft Brewery in Austin - 8.74 mi

Frontyard Brewing doesn’t just brew beer. Instead, the brewery aims to build a friendly and family-oriented community, and the “beer is just the invitation”. The brewery currently has a lineup of five beers. These consist of the Belgian Blond Ale, Rye IPA, Coffee Milk Stout, Oatmeal Stout, and Belgian Golden Ale. Instead of putting up their own taproom, a “hallmark” of any brewery, the brewery upon launch upended the traditional brewery business plan by selling their beers first around Austin. As of October 2019, the brewery is busy with the construction of their “front yard”. When finished, it will house the brewery’s expanded facilities, and features the company’s very own taproom. Expected to open by spring 2020, owners and founders Kevin Jones and Chad Worner are hoping to see their fans in their “porch” and sipping on a pint. Meanwhile, Frontyard invites its fans to use the brewery's website to learn where their beers are available.

Craft Brewery in Austin - 12.56 mi

Austin’s Uncultured Ales is a “very low production brewery” specializing in aged sour beers. Founder Cass Everitt is a self-taught homebrewer who happens to like sour beers. He specializes in what he calls “laissez-faire fermentation”. The process can take several months or even years, which accounts for his low production capacity for now. The brewery also doesn’t have a taproom just yet, but has managed to produce eight varieties. These include Fugarillo, a light golden dry hopped sour, and C-A55, a sour red ale. For distribution, he relies on Flood Independent Distribution. Meanwhile, fans of his beers can check Uncultured Ales’ Facebook page for information on where to find his beers.

Craft Brewery in Austin - 12.87 mi

Brian Hyde, Marcos Canchola, Joe Holifield, and Chris Fish released Hitmaker Brewing Company’s first beer, an IPA, only in mid-May 2018. The brewery and its founders, however, are far from being newbies to the business of craft beers. Joe, head brewer and the “creative force” behind their beers, has over a decade of homebrewing experience. He also attended Siebel Institute in Chicago. Meanwhile, the other founders own or co-own several bars and restaurants around Austin. The list includes MugShots, Pour House Pints & Pies, The Hideout Pub, Pour House Pub, Bender Bar & Grill, and Violet Crown Social Club. The brewery’s taproom opened about a year after the release of its first beer. Since then they’ve lined up about 10 beers including a coconut porter and a Kolsch. The taproom is open from Thursdays to Sundays.

Compadre Brewing

Craft Brewery in Round Rock - 14.78 mi

Officially opened in the summer of 2019, Compadre Brewing is owned and operated by the Galvan family in Pflugerville/Round Rock. It’s a dog-friendly and family friendly brewery that started with a “Make Your Own Beer Kit” Christmas gift for Roel, the brewery’s owner and brewer. Together with his father Roy, the two set out to discover the world of craft beers, which culminated in their opening Compadre Brewing. As fate would have it, the family took over a short-lived brewery that used to exist at their present location. The brewery soft-opened with their Cinco De Cele(brew)cion last May 5, and served about 32 different craft beers on tap, including their own creations. A few months into their opening, the reviews have been great:
  • “It is awesome. Friendly staff, good beers and plenty of options of other local beers”
  • “Solid selection of beers”
  • “They like to push flavor profiles and add depth to the beer (which is) a good thing”
