The US town of Avinger is found in Cass County in Texas. Avinger was founded in 1876. Its population was 444 in 2010, according to the census of the same year. This was a drop from the 464 reported by the 2000 census. Before Avinger was founded there was a settlement known as Hickory Hill nearby in early 1840s. A post office was established in Avinger in 1848, having moved from Hickory Hill, while the Red River and East Line Railroad arrived in 1876. After building a station in the area, Avinger town appeared. Hickory Hill businesses started to relocate to Avinger.
