The US city of Balch Springs is located in Dallas County in the state of Texas. It had a population of 23,728 in 2010, according to official figures from the census carried out the same year. The 2018 estimates put the figure 25,312. Balch Springs began receiving its first settlers in the 1840s. John Balch settled in southern Mesquite with his family around 1879 in what was then unincorporated Dallas County. Balch found numerous springs here, and one even ran all year round. Locals would then start referring to the springs on Balch’s property as Balch Springs. They continued to use the name even after Balch left a few years later. In 1885, they named a county school after the springs.
