Bayside was founded in 1908 by A. H. Danforth and E. O. Burton. Black Point was the original name of the area before its acquisition by the two experienced developers a few years later. Although Danforth and Burton promoted the area to potential investors as ideal for truck farming, its population never got to pick. Located in the western part of Refugio County, its current population is 325, according to statistics from the 2010 census report. Bayside got its first post office in 1909 before which most of its contact with the outside world was through the Rockport and Copano Bay.
