The town is located in Clay County, Texas. The first settlement in this area was recorded in 1882. Since its incorporation in 1902, the town has experienced several resurges and declines in its population. 1906 was the worst when it was almost wiped out in totality by a tornado that swept through the area. The Great Depression was another difficult time for the town, but the discovery of petroleum saved it from extinction. Places you can’t afford to miss while here include the Horton Classic Car Museum, Clay County 1890 Jail Museum, Manna Ranch Trail Rides and Lake Arrowhead State Park.
