The Ben Wheeler unincorporated community is found in Van Zandt County on the southern part of Canton in the US state of Texas. The town had been initially named Clough and experienced many hardships that nearly brought it to its knees. One of the tragedies that befell it is the 1893 fire that destroyed more than half of the businesses in the area. The town had 500 residents in 1896. Unfortunately, it was hit by another calamity that reduced the number 5o 238 by the end of 1904. The Texas Oil Boom shelved Ben Wheeler from the adverse effects of the Great Depression.
