The US city of Brownfield is found in Terry County, in the US state of Texas. According to the 2010 census, the city had a population of 9,657. It serves as Terry County’s seat. In 1903, A. F. Small and W. G. Hardin, promoters, arrived in Terry County with a plan to turn into thousands the former’s few hundred dollars. The two bought Terry County’s center lot from A. M. Brownfield. They began platting the site, giving all voters in the county a lot. This was to enhance the chances of Brownfield becoming Terry County’s seat. The town was named after a prominent ranching family.
