The US city of Bryson is located in Jack County, in the state of Texas. According to the 2010 census, the city had a population of 539. Settlers began arriving in Bryson in the 19th century. The area was originally named Mount Hecla. It was granted a post office in 1878. The area’s first residence — a log cabin— was built by Henry Bryson in the same year. Later, the community was named after Bryson and the change recognized officially in 1884 when the post office adopted the name. Bryson would later serve the area as a County Commissioner. The area’s pioneer family names were Vanhooser, Shanefelt, Raley, Moore, McCloud, Kuykendall, Keyser, Henderson, Epperson, Enlow, Cullers, Crumpton, Cook, Clayton, Chambers, and Blount.
