Cedar Hill, first known as the ‘cedar brakes’ was founded around 1846 by a group of settlers from Peters Colony. Early in its history, Cedar Hill lay along a branch of the Chisholm Trail and served as the temporary county seat of Dallas County. Cedar Hill has two graveyards designated as ‘Historical Texas Cemeteries’, which is believed to be the oldest integrated cemetery in Dallas County. In April 1856, Cedar Hill was struck by a tornado. In the 156th anniversary of the tornado, the Texas Historical Commission marker was placed on site. In 1932, the First State Bank of Cedar Hill was robbed twice by Raymond Hamilton, a sidekick of Bonnie and Clyde.
