Centralia was populated around the time of the Civil War. It is located fifteen miles northeast of Groveton in Trinity County. In 1873, a public square was placed which signified the beginning of various businesses. 11 years later, the post office was opened. The town was named Centralia for its location between Nogalus Price and Apple Springs. the town grew to have several streams of sawmills and gristmills. The population began to decline after World War I in 1917. The current population according to 2000 census was a total of 53 people. The town’s population peaked at 300 in 1914.
