Dallardsville is an unincorporated community in Polk County. It was named after John J. Dollard, a young doctor and a school teacher who also served as a postmaster after the community was granted a post office in 1877. In 1888, the Dallardsville school was organized and after a couple of years, the town had seventy-five residents, three churches, and a public school. Cotton and wool has been the primary shipments of the area farmers. In 1925, the population dropped to twenty and the post office was discontinued in 1929; however, the consequent discoveries of oil and natural gas led to the region’s new growth. The post office was reinstated by the late 1940s, and the population increased through the mid-1960s. In 1983 and 1984, Dallardsville had found additional oil and gas fields north and west of town which greatly contributed to its existing development.
