Darrouzett is a town in Lipscomb County. The town was originally named Lourwood after Opal Lourwood, who was the first child born in the region. Upon the completion of the Panhandle and Santa Fe Railway station between 1919 and 1920, the town was later named after John Louis Darrouzet, a legislator who also served as a lawyer for the railroad and its settlers. To take advantage of the rail line, businesses started to move from Oklahoma. In 1920, Darrouzett was incorporated and it had various businesses, two churches, a school, and a post office. Soon, the town became a grain-marketing center and during the 1940s and 1950s, Darrouzett became “the best paved town per capita of the Panhandle.” Two decades later, its leaders launched the Village Improvement Plan that included the improvement and expansion of recreational facilities. Cultural events such as the annual Deutsches Fest were also initiated.
