Driscoll is a city in Nueces County. It was founded in 1904 when a railway was built and a depot was located on a ranchland. The settlement was named after Robert Driscoll, the owner of that ranchland. Although a different town in the county already carries that name, it was then changed to Alfred. In the early 1950s, Driscoll was incorporated and two decades after, it had six businesses. The population kept its growth from the 1920s towards the year 2000. As traffic violations became Driscoll’s primary source of public revenue, its U.S. Highway 77, which will be the future Interstate 69E, recently dropped its speed limit from 70 to 40 mph.
