The US town of Encinal is located in La Salle County in the state of Texas. Its population, according to the 2010 census, was 559. Encinal has few businesses since most have closed along its main street. The town was named Encinal, which means oak grove in Spanish, by railroad officials. The town’s population peaked at 800 in 1937. The town was initially set to be Encinal County’s seat after its establishment in 1856. The county was to consist of Webb County’s eastern portion. But the new county was never organized, leading to its dissolution in 1899. The Encinal territory was as a result absorbed back into Webb County.
