Groesbeck is a city in and the county seat of Limestone County. During its early years, the city was a trade center for area farms and ranch. It was first settled in 1835 but it wasn’t until 1870, when a railway was extended through the town, that Groesbeck started to develop. In 1871, the city was incorporated and was named after Abram Groesbeck, the director of the railroad company. Groesbeck is home to the “Million Dollar Courthouse,” where the last legal execution in the county took place, and the Old Fort Parker Historical Site, where the story of Cynthia Ann Parker, the mother of the last Comanche chief who was captured by the Comanches themselves, was conserved for its tourists. As of 2010, its population was 4,328.
