Guerra is a census-designated place in Jim Hogg County. It is located along FM 649, south of Randado and north of Rio Grande Valley. The area was first settled in the late 1800s by A. Guerra, whose last name means “war” in Spanish. Although the community was named after him, the Mexican inhabitants called it El Colorado, in reference to the numerous red cattle that wandered in the area. In 1906, the San Antonio Viejo post office inaugurated in Guerra. Guerra has been the state’s smallest town by the populace. The highest recorded occupants was 100, in 1914. As of 2010, its population was 6.
