Henderson is a shire town of Rusk County. James Pinckney Henderson was the first governor of Texas, and hence where the name came from. The town was founded in 1843. and has a population of 13712 as of 2010 census. The city had the purpose of being the paramount crossroads in Northeast Texas. Assorted vital highways transit the business district of this conurbation. Events that occur once every year comprise the East Texas Harp Convention that takes place in August and the Heritage Syrup Festival which occurs in November. The city also has a spirited downtown historic district with numerous establishments dating back to before the American Civil War. Central Henderson is one of the most substantial and endearing downtowns in the East Texas Area.
