Hidalgo is a city located in its own county in Texas. At the 2010 census, the town’s population was 11,198. The town was founded in 1852. The city that is now Hidalgo was settled by a Spanish colonizer in 1749. The settlement was called La Habitación before John Young settled and renamed the town in honor of his hometown Edinburgh, Scotland. After that, the city became the county seat. The city was incorporated in 1876. , and also changed its name to Hidalgo in 1885. The county seat is located in the southern part of the county and it goes across the Rio Grande river.
