Fire Ant Brewing

Craft Brewery in Tomball - 2.12 mi

It took quite a while for the owners of Fire Ant Brewing to have their dream brewery – almost eight years, they say. After getting approval from the city, they still had to wait some more for construction and a few setbacks. Everyone seems to agree, however, that the wait was worth it. A true brewpub, Fire Ant Brewing also features a restaurant and a bar patio that’s been voted #1 in Tomball. The brewpub serves the town known for its strong German heritage, and also the surrounding areas of Woodlands, Spring, Magnolia and the Cypress. With this in mind, the brewpub made sure to have a few German-inspired food and beers on the menu. Fire Ant is great for families and dog-friendly. Watch their social media pages for announcements on their happy hours and other events.

Bearded Fox Brewing Co.

Craft Brewery in Tomball - 7.64 mi

Bearded Fox Brewing Co. is a craft microbrewery in Tomball that simply wants to create and serve great beer. The founders hope that when you drink their beer, you’ll feel good about it. That, for its founders, is the essence of a good beer. They also believe in sustainability and going local, which is why they source their ingredients from as many local sources as they can. And – they’ve kept it simple and local, too. Just beer and no food – they have local food trucks on rotation if you’re hungry.

You might wonder why they named their brewery and taproom Bearded Fox. It’s because the owners all have beards, and their wives they say, are foxes. Whether one believes that part or not doesn’t matter. They have been open since 2017 and they simply have great beer including four core beers and several on rotation.

Twisted Acre Brewery

Craft Brewery in Cypress - 7.74 mi

When Robert Brogdon and wife Nicole opened their brewery Twisted Acre Brewery and taproom in December 2018, it was the fulfillment of a dream. The couple had been homebrewing since 2012, starting with Nicole giving Robert a home brewing kit. Since then, they’ve enjoyed a reputation at local festivals with their beers. Despite an unsuccessful Kickstarter campaign, the couple went ahead with their dreams. They even quit their jobs to set up the brewery. “I told him if we waited until we had enough money to do this, we'd be waiting forever," Nicole says in an interview prior to the opening of the brewery. The brewery currently has a 3.5 BBL equipment. They would have wanted something larger if the Kicstarter campaign had been successful. For their beers, the couple focuses on “unexpected flavors”. They’ve incorporated “rich flavors like toffee and caramel”. A butterscotch cream ale, Buttercream, is one of their more popular beers.

Fortress Beer Works

Craft Brewery in Spring - 9.14 mi

Fortress BeerWorks based in Spring, Texas opened in mid-March 2019. Dion Billard was a homebrewer and friends Robert Fleming, John O’Hara, and Shawn Stasiuk used to hang around his garage for his beers. The four were friends at their day job. The brewery’s opening makes it Spring’s first and the 53rd for the Greater Houston area. The secluded but inviting taproom and brewery has over 6,600 square feet of space for guests. The indoor and outdoor seating areas easily accommodate over 100 people. There’s a fenced in playground for kids with plans to add more kid-friendly stuff. Food trucks will provide the food although guests are welcome to bring in their own. The brewery is also ideal for owners to bring their dogs. For options other than beer, the brewery has cider, root beer, and a selection of wines.

Wicked Boxer Brewing

Craft Brewery in Cypress - 10.81 mi

Wicked Boxer Brewing’s owners are fond of dogs, especially the boxer breed. With the black and white mug of a boxer as a logo, Cypress residents and brewery owners Jamie and Brian Cain envisioned a kid-friendly and dog-friendly brewery and taproom for local residents. They also wanted to create a “community-driven business”, which explains their successful Kickstarter campaign. One of their community projects include collaborating with Houston Boxer Rescue to help raise funds and hold adoption events. Combining their passion for craft beer and boxers, they named their brewery after the traits of their beloved breed – “playful, fun, entertaining, and of course oh-so-wicked!” Note: They are in the process of moving out of their Mueschke Rd taproom. Watch their social media pages for the grand reopening at 8190 Barker Cypress Rd. Suite 300.

Lone Pint Brewery

Craft Brewery in Magnolia - 11.02 mi

A proud member of the Texas Craft Brewers Guild, The Lone Pint Brewery is a family owned business, dedicated to creating “distinctive local Texas ales that are tasty, hoppy, and quaffable.” It started as a dream shared by brother and sister, twenty gallons at a time, in a two car garage. After perfecting the recipes, choosing the yeast strain, and fine tuning the water chemistries, Lone Pint Brewery was opened in 2012. They use raw whole cone hops for bittering, flavoring, aroma, and dry hopping in their brews. However, an equally important ingredient is the “renewable energy that powers the Brewery.” They offer a selection of their core brews, limited releases, and the “Zythophile Lone Hop Series” where each batch uncovers the true essence of the hop.

11 Below Brewing Company

Craft Brewery in Houston - 12.68 mi

11 Below Brewing Company currently offers 13 varieties of craft beer – so, no, their name does not refer to the excellent beers they brew in North Houston. Here’s a hint – their co-founders worked at Texas oilfields at some point, but their love for beers led them to brewing beers instead. Four out of the 13 varieties they brew are available all year round, while the rest are seasonal offerings or specials so call ahead before heading out the door. All are available on draft while a selection is available in 12 oz cans at your favorite retailers. Oh – and all have clever names with “best paired with” recommendations. With 19 beers currently on the menu, the brewery’s craft beers are not the only attraction that brings people to their 7-acre location. Co-founders and brothers Chad and Brent Daniel made sure that, when they opened in 2014, their passion for craft beers is evident in each brew. Their unique creations, however, reach new heights when paired with the stunning surroundings. The brewery is located near a national park and the setting is “park-like” amidst towering trees. There are ping-pong tables, live music, and a food truck or three. There’s indoor and outdoor seating in their taproom, and wine, lemonade, or house-made root beer is available for those who didn’t come for the beer. Supervised kids and leashed dogs are also welcome.

Copperhead Brewery

Craft Brewery in Conroe - 15.63 mi

Copperhead Brewery is a Conroe-based family-owned craft brewery. Its owners are Seth Earnest, his wife Alicia, and his dad, Mark. The brewery’s name comes from the copperhead snakes common in the Montgomery County area. Whenever possible, beer names at the brewery take on a snake-themed name. Examples include their year-round beers Medusa (a Belgian dark strong), Striker (an American IPA), and Black Venom (their popular Imperial Stout). Seasonal beers are also available such as the farmhouse ale Sidewinder Saison. The brewery prefers “big, aggressive beers” and believes that one “(doesn’t) have to do a light beer to be successful”. This “aggressiveness” shows in their popular t-shirt merchandise featuring an angry-looking copperhead snake. At the brewery, guests can enjoy a choice of indoor or outdoor seating. The indoor area features an air-conditioned taproom. The outdoor area, meanwhile, has picnic tables and games, and can accommodate pets.

Southern Star Brewing

Craft Brewery in Conroe - 17.81 mi

Established in July 2007, Southern Star Brewing Company proudly became Texas' pioneer in canning craft beer. With signature brews that exude quality, they've forged a stellar reputation in the craft brewing scene. The brewery's immense popularity led to the creation of a custom-built facility in 2016, nestled on a sprawling 13-acre wooded property. Here, you can enjoy an exceptional taproom overlooking the production brewhouse, an inviting outdoor Biergarten with live music, and even a disc golf course. Crafting a diverse range from pale ales to stouts, their notable labels like Bombshell Blonde and Buried Hatchet Stout are beloved far and wide. Experience Southern Star Brewing Company's craft beer excellence!

Back Pew Brewing

Craft Brewery in Porter - 20.26 mi

Bobby Harl established his craft brewery in 2015 inside an old church building and named it Back Pew Brewing. The 14-acre property the church sits on houses a taproom appropriately named “The Sanctuary”. With a large selection of brew creations, the so-called Houston prodigal son Harl offers his guests a choice between his Saints or Sinners line-up. The Saint beers are identifiable with their mostly white labels and described as “more traditional, ‘sessionable’ beers with lower ABVs”. The Sinners line, meanwhile, is denoted with mostly black labels, tap handles, or cans, and consist of “more unorthodox and less common ‘big’ beers”. These beers have higher ABVs, and therefore, are “more challenging”. The taproom is open Thursdays to Sundays, with food trucks available on Saturdays. Guests are welcome to bring outside food. Kids can play in the expansive yard, and pets are welcome, too!

Ingenious Brewing Company

Craft Brewery in Humble - 22.36 mi

Ingenious Brewing Company is by Mike Broderick, its head brewer, and Justin Gyorfi, urologist by profession. The brewery specializes in “small batch beers” that “diverge from traditional norms”. With 24 taps that tend to be “outside-the-box”, the brewery releases beers that “look awesome on an Instagram feed”. If demand is any indication, the beers are delicious, too. Less than a year from their first anniversary, the brewery is barely able to keep up with the demand and is eyeing to open a second location. The brewery specializes in “tart fruited sours, pastry stouts, hop-loaded IPAs, and milkshake IPAs”. Enjoy them at the 2,000 square meter air-conditioned taproom, possibly including the “colorful” Smarty Stone beers. This line of beers took inspiration from the colors of Marvel’s Infinity Stones. You’ll have to come often, though, since they rotate beers often. You might even see a favorite making a comeback.

Megaton Brewery

Craft Brewery in Kingwood - 22.46 mi

Located in Kingwood, Texas, The Megaton Brewery is a small craft beer producer and one of the top Houston breweries that offers a “great selection of craft beers” in their awesome taproom. Megaton’s Master Brewer, affectionately known as Captain Pint, began his journey of crafting his own brews in the early 1990’s. His brewing experience and culinary training led to years of experimental brewing well outside the boundaries of traditional beer styles. At Megaton Brewery, you can “experience, appreciate and enjoy their distinctive beer and atmosphere.” From the northeast side of Houston, they utilize their state of art 15 barrel brew house to create exclusive recipes using only the finest ingredients!

Astral Brewing

Craft Brewery in Houston - 22.74 mi

Astral Brewing just opened in March 2019 and the reviews after just six months of operation blow the competition away. Or you might even say out of the galaxy. Co-founders Jose Ceja and Alex McDonald seem to have a winner on their hands, with these kinds of reviews:
  • Overall this is a perfect Kolsch. I struggle with rating beers a solid 5.0 because that means there’s nothing they can do to improve it. But a perfect appearance, a perfect aroma, a perfect mouthfeel and flavor… well, that’s a 5 star beer, y’all.” – from Beer Chronicle for their Astral Kraftwerk Kolsch
  • “Very fun little brewery! They have ping pong tables, good beers, music, food trucks and games galore.” – a random review from a random review site
The brewery is also very dog-friendly and currently offers “$2 off selected beers during televised local favorite football games”.

4J Brewing Company

Craft Brewery in Houston - 23.04 mi

4J Brewing Company is a family-owned craft nano-brewery owned and operated by four siblings. The “J” refers to their names – Jessica, Jackie, Joana, and Jennifer. They currently offer five varieties of craft beers ranging from 5.1% to 6.7% (plus non-alcoholic root beer!). This 100% female-owned and female-brewed operation is based in the Houston/Spring Branch area and serves Amber Ale, Blonde Ale, India Pale Ale, Pale Ale, and American Stout at their taproom. The 4J’s beers are only available at their taproom. The siblings have decorated the place with many repurposed items from the 4J Ranch. (Mom and Dad also own 4J Ranch in Blue, Texas.) They also accept special private events at the taproom and offer memberships into the 4J Ladies. The 4J Ladies hold monthly events on the last Thursday of each month, and usually invite female business owners to talk about their expertise.

Brash Brewing Company

Craft Brewery in Houston - 23.18 mi

Brash Brewing Company is from the same man who brought Houston the famed Petrol Station, Ben Fullelove. The taproom opened to the public in late 2015, but the brewery was actually founded in 2012. Legal hurdles kept Ben from opening the brewery in Texas, and the brewery operated out of Massachusetts at its start. When Texas laws changed in 2013, Brash Brewing moved its operation back to Texas, and Brashland (Brash’s taproom) soon opened. Enthusiasts describe Brash Brewing as an “edgy brewery”. Their in-your-face attitude notwithstanding, the brewery scores many fans with its stouts and IPAs. The taproom is also heavy on the soundtrack with heavy metal playing at the jukebox. “You won’t find any strawberry beers or pilsners on tap,” says a review, but they do feature guest brews from other local breweries. Quick note: Many first-time visitors have difficulties finding Brashland. One last thing - they have circa 80's arcade games available!

Great Heights Brewing Company

Craft Brewery in Houston - 23.24 mi

Sean Bednarz and Patrick Christian of Great Heights Brewing Company have been friends since fifth grade. During a camping in the summer of 2015, they stopped by at various breweries in Colorado, and started discussing the possibilities of opening one. In 2017, a few days before Harvey struck, they opened their doors to their new taproom. Prior to opening the brewery, both Sean and Christian held desk jobs with long hours. They say that putting up the company is “living the dream”. What makes their brewery extra special is that they chose to establish it in their old neighborhood of Garden Oaks/ Oak Forest. Today, Sean handles the brewing part while Patrick takes care of the sales side. Tips: The brewery is open daily but hours vary (check their website). The patio is pet-friendly, and there’s soda and popcorn for kids. There are food trucks from Wednesdays to Saturdays, but they don’t mind if you bring food from outside.

Walking Stick Brewing Company

Craft Brewery in Houston - 23.25 mi

All of Walking Stick Brewing Company’s beers take inspiration from the Rockies that have been so much a part of Andy and his wife, Angie. The brewery’s beers are named after the “14ers”, the 53 mountains in Colorado exceeding 14,000 feet. "Amazing Houston brewery" with an "atmosphere" that is "perfect for a spring night". There are "tons of outdoor seating, and a few indoor options as well". The owners are "fantastic to chat beer with" and the rest of the service is also "equally as pleasant". "The flight" will "not disappoint" anyone "as all the beers" are "awesome". There are also "a few really unique brews, and others just great, solid beer".
