Knickerbocker is an unincorporated coterie located in Tom Green County in Texas. Knickerbocker is located southwest of San Angelo, which is a county seat of Tom Green County. Even though the community is unincorporated, it has a post office and ZIP code. The town was named after Diedrich Knickerbocker, who was Washington Irving’s story character. The character actually has gotten its name from early settlers in the area. After that, the community was quickly populated and the community was only second to San Angelo. The main source of income around the town was sheep ranching and grain farming. The post office was opened in 1881.
