La Marque is a city located in Galveston County in Texas. It is located south of Houston. The city’s population was 14,509 at the 2010 census. The town’s original name was Highlands because of its proximity to Highlands Creek, but in the 1890s, after residents learned that there was another community going by that name, they changed it to La Marque. In French, it translates to “The Mark”. In 1914 The town connected three railroads, and an Interurban line. The town La Marque’s population peaked in the 1970s with 17,000 residents. It declined over the years to its present numbers.
