La Ward is a city located in Jackson County in Texas. At the 2010 census, the town’s population was 213. The community came to be in 1904 on the coastal prairie when the St. Louis, Brownsville, and Mexico Railway arrived. The town’s gotten its name for Lafayette Ward who was a local who introduced different cattle types to the New World. La Ward was a shipping center for cattle. As stated by the U.S Bureau has a total area of 0.81 square miles. The community used to have its own independent school district in 1940. But now is distributed by the Industrial Independent School District.
