Liberty is a city located in its own county in Texas. The city is also the county seat. As of the 2010 census, the town’s population was 8,397. The city was established near a Spanish settlement called Atascosito which was founded in 1756. Mexican commissioner named Jose Francisco Madero named the site Villa de la Santisima Trinidad de la Libertad. The Americans shortened it to Liberty. People believe it was named after Liberty in Mississippi who used to be a settlement of some residents. A post office was granted to the city in 1836. The city’s population seems to be growing ever since.
