Lockhart is a city situated in Caldwell County in Texas. Lockhart is the county seat of the county. The city’s population was 12,698 as of the 2010 census. The city’s name was given after Byrd Lockhart who was seemingly the first Anglo American to explore the land of Caldwell County. The town’s first name was Plum Creek, but it was later changed to Lockhart. The town’s total area was 15.6 square miles as the U.S Bureau stated, only 0.04 square miles water. Lockhart is distributed by the Lockhart Independent School District. One of the town’s nicknames is the “Barbecue Capital of Texas”
