Lockney is a city placed in Floyd County in Texas. The city’s population was 1,842 at the 2010 census. Used to be 2,056 just ten years earlier. The town is located just ten miles northwest of Floydada which is the county seat. The coterie goes back to 1889. When the settlers from Della Plain wanted to find a better source of water in the area. They settled in the area where Lockney is today and established a post office one year later. The name is said to be honoring father J.H. Lockney of an early settler J. Lockney. The Lockney Independent School District distributes the city. The city’s total area was 1.5 square miles as the U.S Bureau states, all of it is land.
