Lyford is a city located in Willacy County in Texas. As of the 2010 census, the city’s population was 2,611. The town’s original founding was in the 1700s by the Spanish colonists. The area went by the name of Laguna Del Como Se Llama as a Spanish colony. The city itself was named after William H. Lyford who used to be a railroad lawyer. The town’s Anglo American founding was in 1904 when the Gulf Coast Irrigation Company was established in the area. The first building of the town was Pioneer Hall which was built in 1907, a few months later a post office was opened.
