Mereta is an unincorporated coterie located in Tom Green County. The town also has two more names: Fisherville and Lipan. Mereta is placed on local roads east of San Angelo which is the county seat of Tom Green County. Even though the community is unincorporated, it has a post office. Twin Sisters was already taken so when the town needed a new name for the post office, it combined Meta and Reta Burns to form Mereta in 1902. The town hit its low with around ten residents in the 1930s but has grown and as of the year 1990, the community has 75 residents. The number is still being used.
