The town of Milford’s settlement dates back to the 1850s. Some men from Cherokee County bought land in Ellis County from Arvin Wright. The town of Milford was named for the factory of the town Milford in Massachusets, it was named by William R. Hudson. Milford was originally incorporated in 1888. As of the 2010 census, the city’s population was 728. Milford received some media coverage in 2013 when a Chevron gas pipeline exploded and the town had to evacuate. One of the town’s mottos is: “Small town living with room to grow”. The town of Milford is being provided by the Milford Independent School District.
