Montague is a CDP, and also an unincorporated community located in Montague County in Texas. Montague is the county seat of Montague County. As of the 2010 census, the town’s population was 304. The town hit the low of a population of 284 residents in 1947. The town was established in 1858. The community itself was named for Daniel Montague who was an early settler. Two years after the Montague was founded, a community established a post office. The public’s education system is being provided by the Montague Independent School District. The town’s total area is 1.276 square miles according to the U.S Bureau.
