Nemo is in eastern Somervell County. This unusual name came from many post office application rejections. A local hero named Jimmie Johnson had had the railroad honor him with the designation of Johnson Station. The people wanted to name the town after him but authorities wanted a shorter name. Hence, they decided to name the town Nemo for ‘no man’ in Latin. Settlement of the area began in the mid-19th century. In the year 2000, Brazos River Charter School opened in Nemo serving the town and the surrounding communities of Glen Rose, Cleburne, Granbury and Walnut Springs amongst others. The population remained the same from 1990 to 2000 which was 56 people.
